California Invention Convention Course


*** Private small-group course held Mondays 5-5:50pm from January 10-March 28, 2021. Class size limited to 7 students (ages 8-12). ***

This 12-week course guides and mentors students as they develop their own invention projects and prepare to enter this year's California Invention Convention! The instructors will teach students the invention process and support students to develop their own projects, as follows:

Jan. 10-31, Weeks 1-4, Phase 1: Brainstorming & Research

Feb. 7-28, Weeks 5-8, Phase 2: Prototyping & Testing

March 7-28, Week 9-12, Phase 3: Presentation Preparation & Entry Submission

Homework (approx. 1-2 hours per week) will be assigned to help students reach their goals. Parental assistance may be needed to help students gather supplies for their invention and to shoot a video presentation of their entry. 

Tuition: Twelve 50-minute live instructed online sessions (held over Zoom), $15 per class, $180 total for the 12-week course

Teachers: Sunny Satpathi (lead teacher) and Valerie Mih (supervisor)

Please note: The course is geared towards students who reside California and are interested in entering the California Invention Convention. Students residing in other locations may enroll,  but will need to follow the entry guidelines of their local state or international Invention Convention chapter. The instructors can help parents research the specific guidelines for their regional Invention Convention affiliated organization. 

Important Deadlines:

  • January 15, 2022 – Registration closes for teachers and program leaders
  • April 6th, 2022 – Inventor registration closes 
  • April 11-21 2022 – General judging
  • April 21-23, 2022 – Special awards judging
  • April 30, 2022 – Awards announced
